Proactively Resolve

Workplace Conflicts

Did you know that conflict at work costs the U.S. over $400 billion a year?

A study found that Americans spend about 4 hours each week dealing with conflict. That equates to over 700 million working days a year.

Ignore conflict, and the effects will ripple through your company. You will soon find employees (and the whole organization) suffering from:

  • Burnout

  • Lower productivity

  • Less innovation and creativity

  • High turnover

  • Slower product creation times

At CM&F, we’re on a mission to give you back that lost time and support a healthy workplace.

Conflict is often more subtle than yelling

Workplace conflict often shows up as incivility - being disrespectful or rude. It can be as extreme as mocking someone or as disheartening as abruptly dismissing an idea.

Incivility has an outsized impact on employees. Another study found that:

  • 66% of people experiencing incivility at work cut back on work efforts

  • 80% lost work time worrying about it

  • 12% left their job

If the average pay at an organization employing 100 people is $85,000, the average turnover cost per employee for incivility is $127,500. For 12 people, that adds up to $1,530,000!

What People Are Saying

“As always, your facilitation was outstanding. You all do a really great job of listening, adjusting, and coming back with tailored training events for your clients.”

— John Lucas, President and CEO, ISEP

How the program works

As a member of our Conflict Consulting program, your company receives four hours of expert time each month to receive guidance on conflict resolution.

The time can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Managers and employees call when they need help resolving a specific challenge with a coworker, supervisor, vendor, or partner

  • Scheduled training that will teach managers how to spot the signs of conflict among their team

  • Roundtable discussions about how to deal with conflict that are organization-specific

  • Providing a written mediation policy or reviewing existing policies about grievance procedures

  • Having an expert mediator on-call to handle consultations about conflicts that just won’t go away - and may require mediation or arbitration to get to a resolution
